Review: Daniel Day-Lewis takes this movie from a good to very good or even excellent. It's absolutely fascinating, one of the most interesting villains I've ever seen on film. I do not regret Day-Lewis won an Oscar for her performance. He was just remarkable to watch. His facial expressions alone me cracking up! Day-Lewis plays Bill the Butcher Cutting a tough guy. However, there are no real good guys in this story. Supposed hero, played by Leonardo DiCaprio, is a man in search of revenge with a ton of mana alone. Other characters are either thieves, gang members, corrupt politicians and corrupt police. Ah yes, another family-oriented film director Martin Scorcese gently Scorcese.Vhat lacking in family values, he comes close in style to compensate. This is another fascinating view film with great sets, costumes, colors and camera. Other typical Scorsese touches are here: Catholic servants and brutal language. (I wonder if the F-word was used back in the days this movie is going.) Short, heavy film that can be very uncomfortable to watch, but Lewis for excellent performance and spectacular visual.
